On Friday, 31 May, teachers from all over Gauteng will gather at the Victory Theatre in Johannesburg for the third Inspired Teachers Conference, hosted by the QualityLife Company.
The conference, which aims to ignite passion in teachers to ultimately shape leaders and change lives, is designed to showcase the latest in education trends. Debby Edelstein, founder of the QualityLife Company and chair of the Inspired Teachers Conference says that education is burdened with challenges. “But from challenging times emerge some of the best opportunities for innovation as well as creativity and this is what we hope to give teachers who attend the conference.”
Edelstein says that over the years she has come to understand that we learn better together and that is why she created an opportunity for teachers to talk to each other. The inaugural Inspired Teachers Conference took place in Johannesburg during March 2012 and most recently, during February this year, in Polokwane. The latter was attended by over 220 teachers representing government as well as private schools from all over Limpopo.
Maggie Verster, a consultant to the Department of Education and passionate School 2.0 (social media) activist for teaching and learning, attended the previous conference and was delighted to see the conference reach beyond the walls of the venue in Polokwane. “The hashtag #inspiredteachers trended for 11 hours on Twitter in Johannesburg and reached the fourth place in top trends. I go to many conferences and places all over, but this one stood out – it was warm, informal and inspiring.”
The one-day conference starts at 8am and attendance is not limited to teachers looking for inspiration. If you are a facilitator who is keen to learn the best teaching methods or a parent who accepts that education is a community responsibility, you are welcome to contact Lizzy Mafalo on 011 880 9749 or [email protected] for more information.
